Asphaltenes Content in Buton Asphalt

One of the functions of road paving using Asphalt is so that the road can be passed in more comfortable conditions at a given load. Asphaltenes are components that have a relationship in increasing elasticity (G’) which plays a role in increasing the ductility and recoverability of asphalt mixtures when receiving vehicle loads. So the higher the asphaltene content the stiffer and more stable the road.

Buton Asphalt has a high Asphaltene content of about 39.45% of its total chemical content. One of the processed forms of Buton Kabungka Asphalt is in the form of granules, namely WIKA B 5/20 with a penetration of 5dmm and a bitumen content of 20%. The product is available in 50kg and 1000kg packages. In China this type of granules is widely used due to its relative lower price as an additive. For in Taiwan itself the use of Buton Asphalt as an additive can improve the stability of the asphalt road at high temperature, crack resistance at low temperature, and water damage resistance which is more less expensive than SBS ( Lin, Luo, Yang, & Liu, 2011).
